In order for it to function as intended, it needs to be configured (loading the software, setting various parameters such as Wi-Fi, display behaviour, screen lockdown, etc.) and ensuring that everything works even after a power failure from the main battery of the mobile unit.

Creation of configuration packages - simplifying configuration of mobile devices
Configuration packages provide a simple and effective way to commission mobile terminals and ensure that settings and software are resistant to restore boots (cold boot, clean boot or Enterprise Reset). The main advantage of this solution is that you can configure your mobile terminals yourself at any time.
How to install configuration packages on mobile devices
- Using special barcodes, via Wi-Fi, mobile data or via Ethernet base from an FTP server (WinCE / Android) or a web server (Android). You can test how it works by setting your Zebra / Motorola Windows CE device to factory defaults. The video (in Czech) contains an example of initial configuration of the MC3190 and MC2180 mobile terminals using barcodes:
- Using a local connection to your computer using Microsoft ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre. The video below shows an example of installing a configuration package on the MC3090 via USB ActiveSync:
Custom configuration of mobile devices - outsourcing of mobile device setup
Manual configuration of mobile terminals is suitable for a smaller number of devices and includes everything needed to make the mobile unit (reader) operational in the customer's environment. The configuration usually includes the following steps:
- Loading the required firmware version/operating system build
- Name the device
- Application installation
- Setting parameters (Wi-Fi, power management, etc.)
- Blocking unauthorized user access to operating system settings using kiosk mode
- Resistance of parameters and software to reboots (battery drain, Enterprise Reset)
